Although working predominantly with a camera, Lorna doesn't consider herself a photographer as such; rather, she enjoys using the camera as a base coat and a medium that affords considerable fluidity in the transference of the nebulous and contemplative to the material and frameable. She also likes to shuffle words.
Fascinated by the nuances and instability of identity, her work explores the liminal, and that intermediate space somewhere between personal experience and social dictation. Working mainly in studio with mixed-media and in-camera techniques, in exploring this subject she works often with her own body in a dance between the active and the passive, attempting a glance at the boundary between heteronomy and autonomy.
